Metro recently had an opportunity to talk with Aaron Nola during his Bowling for the Troops charity event.
The outing was held to raise money for Team Red, White, and Blue, an organization created to support veterans' health after their service.
The charity night was sponsored by Yuengling and the Phillies, amongst several other sponsorships. Members of the team, including players, coaches, front office staff, TV and Radio personalities, and even the owner John Middleton, were all in attendance.
Nola values support of the Phillies
When asked how it felt to have the support of his teammates and the organization behind him, Nola smiled and said: "It's great, man. When my teammates have charity events, I love going out to them to support them. I love hearing and learning about other organizations and charities that they are supporting."
The Phillies' ace would also go on to mention how important it was for him to use his platform for good. He recognized how he knows that baseball won't last forever, but the impact of giving back will last a lot longer. He was proud to be able to work with Team Red, White, and Blue, and seemed really pleased with the event.
Party time
We all saw the excellent celebrations from the Phillies clubhouse in their 2022 post-season run. Legendary memes, photos, and videos were born from these celebrations, and the joy that the Phillies brought fans will last a lifetime.
It was clear that the playoffs and World Series are often on Nola's mind, as he talked about wanting to finally be able to win it all. He mentioned how personal stats and individual play are secondary and the memories you form with teammates, and the journey of chasing down the trophy is a treasure.
The question on everyone’s lips
Lastly, we had to give Nola a tough question: If you could share a Yuengling with any player, past or present, who would it be?
Yuengling, of course, sponsored the event but also is notoriously Nola's favorite beer.
The question wasn't an easy one, as you could hear in his response that he was searching for an answer true to himself.
The player that he landed on: John Kruk, the Phillies Wall of Famer, and current television broadcaster. Everyone loves John Kruk, and I guarantee most fathers have uttered the phrase, "I would love to share a beer with John Kruk."
It was the perfect answer and hopefully, with continued success, the Phillies and John Kruk can share a beer soon to celebrate this season.
