Flyers fans send clear message as pressure mounts on Rick Tocchet

The Flyers' bench boss is coming under fire after a tough start.

The Philadelphia Flyers fell 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes, extending their winless start to seven games at 0-5-2. With another loss on the books, frustration is growing among the fanbase, and the pressure on head coach Rick Tocchet continues to build.

Carolina scored three times in the second period, with Christian Dvorak briefly cutting the deficit to 2-1 before the Hurricanes responded. Philadelphia struggled to generate offense, finishing with just 19 shots on goal as another game slipped away.

The frustration was evident as fans began chanting “Fire Tocchet” while the arena emptied after the fourth Carolina goal. It is a clear sign that patience is wearing thin as the Flyers continue searching for their first win.

Despite the growing criticism, Sean Couturier emphasized the importance of keeping the team together through the difficult stretch.

“Just to stick together, honestly. Um, it's a tough stretch. No one's happy about it, but we got to stick together and grind ourselves out of it,” Couturier said when asked about his message to the team.

Trevor Zegras also voiced his support for Tocchet despite the team's struggles. “Fully behind Toc. He’s an amazing person. He’s an amazing coach. He does so many little things for us behind the scenes. We’re disappointed with how these games are going,” Zegras said.

Even Rick Tocchet himself stated it might be nerves that some of the players are facing, but thinks that they are looking better.

The players are standing behind their head coach, but the results continue to tell a different story. Philadelphia is struggling to put together complete performances, and the frustration from the stands reflects the growing concern surrounding the team's direction after making the playoffs last season. Fans had higher hopes, despite Briere stating the team would take a step back this season.

Couturier's message is about staying together, and Zegras made it clear that the players continue to believe in Tocchet. Now, the Flyers need to translate that support into results. Zegras touched on how close the locker room is and how all the guys truly love eachother. While the bond in the locker room is strong, the results are not evident on the ice where it truly matters.

The fanbase is running out of patience, and words alone will not change that. Philadelphia needs to find a way to win before this season slips any further out of reach.

The Flyers host Seattle Tuesday night as they are still in search of their first win of the season.
