The Philadelphia Flyers hit the road for a quick one-game trip against the Ottawa Senators before returning home.
Building off the momentum from their previous win over the Kraken, the orange and black wasted no time getting on the board — scoring just 29 seconds into the game. Tyson Foerster notched his third goal of the season, coming off the bench and quickly burying the puck behind Linus Ullmark. Matvei Michkov also had a key breakaway chance early, though he couldn’t capitalize.
Despite the fast start, the Flyers’ early energy seemed to fade midway through the first period when Michael Amadio tied the game with help from former Flyer Claude Giroux.
Early in the second, another ex-Flyer, Olle Lycksell, gave Ottawa its first lead of the night. Neither team found the back of the net after that, thanks in large part to Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar, who kept his team in it with 31 saves.
Vladar, who began the season as the backup, has stepped up in a big way — starting five of Philadelphia’s first seven games. Goaltending has been an ongoing question mark for the Flyers in recent years, but Vladar’s steady presence between the pipes has given the team a chance to stay competitive in nearly every contest.
The Flyers made a somewhat puzzling roster move, scratching Jett Luchanko in favor of Rodrigo Abols. The fourth line, featuring Grebenkin and Hathaway, struggled, and Luchanko’s speed could’ve provided a spark. The 18-year-old rookie has appeared in just four games so far and is still looking for his first NHL point. It’ll be interesting to see how the Flyers handle his development moving forward.
Philadelphia will look to bounce back as they return home to host the New York Islanders tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
