Philly is getting a new kind of home-court advantage.

This weekend, Hoopbus is rolling into the city with a mobile basketball experience that transforms everyday spaces into basketball courts. The nationwide tour stop will feature free games, dunk shows, youth programming and community events designed to bring neighbors together through basketball.

"Hoopbus is here in and around Philly all week for our national tour with Metro by T-Mobile," said Gabe Hilt, lead producer of Hoopbus. "At Hoopbus, our mission is to use basketball as a medium to spread love, pour into the next generation, revitalize communities and bring resources directly where they're needed."

The upcoming Philadelphia tour stop will feature community-focused activations by partnering with local organizations such as the West Philadelphia nonprofit ACHIEVEability, a nonprofit that works to break the generational cycle of poverty for low-income, single-parent, and homeless families through higher education, affordable housing, services, and community and economic development; and The Stoop Pigeon, Philadelphia's first dedicated women's sports hub.

The day kicks off Saturday, July 11, at Dock Street Brewery South where The Stoop Pigeon will host its Wimbledon Women's Championship and WNBA Watch Party. Hoopbus brings its signature mobile basketball experience to the brewery from noon to 1:30 p.m. with basketball contests, free giveaways, and interactive games for all ages.

Later that afternoon, from 4 to 7 p.m., Hoopbus heads to West Philadelphia for a special community activation with ACHIEVEability on 60th Street, between Market and Arch streets. The event will feature live dunk shows, basketball contests, giveaways, free food, music, and other family-friendly activities. Participants from ACHIEVEability's 60th Street Strong and TechUp programs will also take part in an afternoon of mentorship and community-building.

The July 11 events are just part of Hoopbus' stay in Philadelphia.

“We’re bringing free activations to Metro stores with some of the best street ball players in PA, high-energy contests, and giveaways,” says Hilt. “We are hosting two free 3x3 tournaments — one with Philly Youth Basketball to start the week and the second on Sunday, July 12, with Victory in Philly at Lonnie Young Recreation Center where we will also feed the block and provide a free youth skills clinic with NBA/WNBA trainers.

"Across it all, we’re creating spaces where the community of Philly can connect, compete, and celebrate this incredible city and come together through the game of basketball.”
