Of course! IT had to happen right? I mean it wouldn't be Philly if we didn't boo, right? Well, opening day, during a 10-4 route of the defending NL East Champions, a couple of bone heads had to be funny. They had to boo Bryce Harper for striking out.
Maybe they were trying to be funny, like the idiot who screams, "BABABOOEY!" or "GET IN THE HOLE!" whenever a PGA golfer hits a drive. Then, that same dope has to text all their friends, "Did you hear me yell BABABOOEY when Tiger hit that drive on 11! Dude that was totally me! Everybody loved it!" No they didn't. Or they were just trying to give Bryce a proper "Philly Welcome." Whatever your reason for being an idiot, STOP. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP!
The Phillies have hit eight homers in their first three games. Two of which have come from their 8 hole hitter. This lineup is scary good, scoring 24 runs in the opening series. The Phils jumped out to a 3-0 record, even with their starting pitchers not having their best stuff. Oh yeah, they are the only team still undefeated in baseball.
In his debut, Harper went 0-3 with two strikeouts. That doesn't mean he wasn't a factor. After an infield single led to an errant throw, and runners on second and third, the Braves gave Harper a free pass, walking him to face Rhys Hoskins. Dumb move as Hoskins made them pay with his first homer of the season and first grand slam of his career. Phils roll with three homers to a 10-4 route of the Braves in the opener. Game Two and the Electric CBP
For game two we decided to make a family trip to the ballpark to witness the electric atmosphere of the ballpark. The Braves jumped out to a 3-0 lead, however the Phillies were just getting started. I recently tweeted out that I learned of my wife having a crush on JT Realmuto. Well my wife's new favorite player didn't disappoint. he started the comeback with an RBI single in the second. Then he hit a 2 run homer that sent the place, and apparently ladies all across the Delaware valley, into a frenzy. Maikel Franco blasted his second of the year staking claim to the most powerful 8 hole hitter in the big leagues.
Now it was Harper's turn. My wife sent me to get the kids ice cream, so I didn't get to see the blast. That doesn't mean that I didn't witness it. While standing in line with my son, we watched on the monitors as the count went 1-1. Then the roar of the crowd told us that it wasn't just Bryce's first hit that we missed, that his first hit as a Phillie was special. I turned around and witnessed the excitement. I also witnessed disappointment in the eyes of every husband/ father that was standing in line instead of at their seats.
Completing the Sweep
Sunday night baseball came next. Jake Arrieta took the mound and struggled early, however the Braves starting pitcher was worse. The Phils got homers from Harper and McCutchen, both of whom hit their second of the year. The Phillies completed the sweep of the Braves beating them 5-1. We learned that this lineup is really good and is built to score runs. This is going to be a really fun season. Bring on the Nationals.
