InterAct Theatre Company, located in Center City at The Drake on South Hicks Street, offers its audiences an opportunity to explore the unfamiliar.
Since its founding in 1988, this regional theatre has established a unique identity by exclusively focusing on commissioning, developing and producing new and contemporary plays.
“InterAct is a theatre for today’s world, dedicated to commissioning, developing and producing new and contemporary plays that explore the social, political and cultural issues of our time,” the company’s mission statement reads..
Marketing Manager Jasmin Carroll said this focus creates a unique relationship with the public, as the company avoids proven hits in favor of the topical. This commitment to artistic risk positions InterAct as a hub for civic discourse, using the stage to explore pressing issues of the modern era.
The 2026 spring season features two world premieres that continue this tradition of bold storytelling.
First is “Plantation Black,” on stage Feb. 6–March 1. The production features several community-focused events, including Free Ice Cream Previews from Feb. 6–11. Young Friends Night on Feb. 6 and Black Affinity Night on Feb. 13 both offer $20 ticket discounts and free concessions with codes “YOUNG” and “AFFINITYBLAQ38,” respectively. Post-show Q&As with artists and experts will follow weekend performances.
The season concludes with the premier of “Seng’s Hair Salon,” on stage April 17–May 10. Commissioned by InterAct for The Philly Cycle, the play highlights the Southeast Asian Community of South Philly.
“Our plays are a completely new experience that very few people have seen before,” Carroll said. “Our audience is adventurous because when they walk in they have no idea where our stories will take them.”
