Jalen Hurts explains reason for indifference during Eagles' euphoric win over Rams

Posted

The Eagles' win against the Los Angeles Rams hasn’t ceased making headlines for several different reasons: the comeback, the contrast of a poor first half, and an aggressive offense in the second, A.J Brown’s catches, Hurts’ inspiring display, and perhaps the most exciting moment of the game, Jordan Davis’ 61-yard touchdown to seal the Eagles' victory.

And while that moment was historic and remarkable enough to earn Jordan Davis his first career Player of the Week award, Eagles’ quarterback had a surprisingly unenthusiastic reaction that warranted some explanations from him during his press conference on Wednesday.

How the Eagles overthrew the Rams

The game was 27-26 in favor of the Eagles as they neared the end of the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the Rams had one final chance to turn the tide and shift things in their favor with a field goal attempt – until then, their use of field goals had been largely productive all afternoon. But the man of the moment, Jordan Davis, came to the rescue. He didn't just block the attempt; he sco up the ball and ran for 61 yards to get a touchdownoped, a moment that’s clearly up there as one of the best moments of his career.

He extended the lead and sealed the victory for the Eagles. He also reached 18.59 miles an hour during his sprint, which is the fastest since 2017 by a player weighing at least 330 pounds per NFL Next Gen Stats. That single moment also earned him the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, becoming the first Eagles defensive tackle to win the award.

The euphoria was beyond the sidelines; Lincoln Financial Field roared in excitement and jubilated in unison as the Eagles sealed the dramatic comeback. However, one man was unfazed: Jalen Hurts, the one whose performance had inspired the comeback in the first place, with three consecutive touchdown passes.

Inside the mind of Jalen Hurts

Hurts’ reaction quickly went viral, and little wonder why it was one of the questions he was asked when he sat for his press conference on Wednesday.

"Everybody processes their emotions in different ways. I had a ton of emotion. Truly," Hurts said, via team insider Zach Berman. "I'm really processing him picking the ball up and running. I had no doubt that he was gonna make the play, that somebody was going to make the play. The process of him running, just kind of watching.”

"There are a lot of conversations on the sideline as well, even prior to that moment of having a sense of focus on the things that we can improve on, too," he continued. "And so I think also, you know, when you approach it from a bigger perspective and you say, 'Where are we and where are the opportunities to improve?' I'm also assessing it from that vantage point as well."

Having cleared the air, Jalen Hurts and Jordan Davis return to the field on Sunday, as they take on another unbeaten side: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
