'Jesus Christ Superstar' returns for Easter at Keswick

Posted

Prepare for an electrifying Easter weekend as Midnight Productions ignites the Keswick Theatre stage with a groundbreaking revival of 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' the iconic rock opera featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The limited run takes place Friday, April 3, through Sunday, April 5.

“This show is more than a musical, it’s an experience,” says Newton Gilchrist, Artistic Director for Midnight Productions. “Presenting 'Jesus Christ Superstar' during Easter allows audiences to engage with the story in a deeper, more personal way. Our goal is to create a production that feels immediate, visceral, and inspiring.”

Told entirely through song, the iconic rock opera reimagines the final days of Jesus of Nazareth through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Soaring ballads, electrifying rock anthems, and a groundbreaking score help tell this story of fame, faith, betrayal, and a human look at larger-than-life figures.

Since its debut in 1970, 'Jesus Christ Superstar' has revolutionized musical theatre and quickly became a cultural touchstone known for the show’s raw emotion and powerful storytelling.

This production also shines a spotlight on local talent, led by Gigi Gibilisco as Jesus, alongside Jamie Helsman as Judas, Katrina Pilchman as Mary Magdalene, Steve Lobis as Pontius Pilate, and Brandon Szeker as King Herod.

Founded in 1990, Midnight Productions has long been known for delivering dynamic performances that blend choreography, live music, and a passionate ensemble. Set inside the historic Keswick Theatre, this high-energy production offers a memorable way to celebrate the Easter season.

“Jesus Christ Superstar has been a beloved Midnight Productions tradition at the Keswick Theatre for many years, and we’re thrilled to bring it back for the first time since before the pandemic,” says Director Diane Wargo. “Presenting the show during Holy Week adds an extra layer of meaning to this remarkable story. With Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic rock opera score and the Keswick stage electrified by our passionate cast, it promises to be a powerful and unforgettable theatrical experience.”

With just three days of performances, audiences are encouraged to secure tickets early for this limited engagement. For more information, visit  keswicktheatre.com.
