The Philadelphia 76ers have been fined $100,000 for initially listing former MVP Joel Embiid as OUT in the Sixers' recent loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Nov. 30.
The Sixers are no strangers to paying fines based on their injury reporting. At the tail end of the 2023-2024 season, the Sixers were fined $100,000 for the same reason. Joel Embiid, after being listed as OUT, suited up and played in an April 2, 2024, game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Sixers, who ended up winning that game, were excited to have Embiid returning from his meniscus injury at the time.
Earlier in that same season, the Sixers had to pay a $75,000 fine for not placing Joel Embiid on the injury report in a "timely" manner before a game against the Denver Nuggets.
Hopefully, the Sixers are able to start utilizing Embiid more as the season goes along and he gets healthier. The multi-time scoring leader has appeared in only seven games this season for a Sixers team that is hovering just above .500 on the year. In those seven games played, Embiid and the Sixers have a combined record of 4-3. Embiid has averaged 19.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists on 45.5/29.0/81.4 shooting splits. He has also averaged only 24.3 minutes a night for the team, which would be his lowest minutes per game in his career.
