Joel Embiid to miss Sixers-Celtics matchup, upcoming back-to-back with strained right oblique

Posted

After undergoing an MRI, Joel Embiid has been diagnosed with a strained right oblique and will miss the Sixers’ next three games.

Embiid reported increased soreness in his right side following an incidental hit Thursday night against Miami. That soreness caused him to miss the team’s Saturday morning practice and will now keep him sidelined for at least half a week.

The Sixers are heading to Boston for a Sunday night matchup against the Celtics, then return home for back-to-back games against the Spurs and Jazz on Tuesday and Wednesday. Following the game against Utah, Embiid will be reevaluated.

The news comes at a bad time for the Sixers, who were just beginning to find their footing, having gone on a three-game win streak following a brutal stretch of four straight losses.

Embiid has played in 33 of 59 games this season for the Sixers after undergoing offseason surgery on his left knee, but has continued to suffer additional injuries, including knee soreness, a stress reaction in his right shin, and now a strained right oblique.
