According to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Eagles RT Lane Johnson is set to miss 4-6 weeks with a Lisfranc sprain he suffered in Sunday night's win over the Detroit Lions.
This obviously comes as a huge blow to the Eagles. The offensive line has endured a tumultuous season as it is, with the unit looking a step beneath its usual effortless dominance. A run of minor injuries and inconsistencies have haunted the group, hurting the run-game and making life that extra bit tougher for Jalen Hurts.
With that said, Johnson has been one of the greats for a long time now. The 35 year old has been with the Eagles since he was drafted in 2013 and has been the franchise RT for most of that tenure.
A two-time Super Bowl champion and one of the most ruthless tackles in the game, even in the latter stages of his career, he's still firing on all cylinders. According to PFF, he still ranks 8th out of all tackles in pass-protection.
Stepping in for Johnson will likely be Fred Johnson, who has looked better than servicable when asked to step up in a pinch.
This is a big run of games for the Eagles. While they've amassed two huge wins over the Lions and Packers, the Bears, Bills, Cowboys, and Chargers are all on deck in the coming weeks. And although the division already looks to have a bow on it, the battle for the #1 seed is raging on.
The good news is that Lane should be back in action by the time the playoffs roll around and luckily, the severity of the injury isn't that serious. However, it is less than ideal for an offense that has struggled all year long to find a consistent base to lose one of its biggest assets.
