A man was killed and another person was wounded when gunfire erupted Monday afternoon in Southwest Philadelphia, authorities said.

Officers were called at around 3:15 p.m. to the 5800 block of Fernwood Street, where they found an adult man who had been shot multiple times, investigators said. He died a short time later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, according to police.

Law enforcement officials said Tuesday that he is still considered a “John Doe” and has yet to be identified.

The other victim, a 20-year-old man, later showed up at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in a private vehicle, police said. He was treated for a gunshot wound to his left leg and listed in stable condition, the PPD stated.

There was no word on any arrests. Anyone with information can contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or call or text the police tip line anonymously at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Later, at around 6:15 p.m., a 44-year-old man was shot about a mile away, on the 1200 block of S. 54th Street in Kingsessing, law enforcement said. He was sitting in a car when a bullet struck his hand, according to investigators.

No arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the incident. Police have not commented on whether the shootings could be related.

Through Sept. 28, 130 homicides have been documented, down about 21% compared to the same date last year, PPD data shows. The number of shooting victims has also decreased nearly 29%.
