MLB All-Star village brings Philadelphia flavor to 2026 All-Star Week

Posted

Philadelphia will spend the summer at the center of the sports world. As the city prepares to help celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, it will also host six FIFA World Cup matches and welcome Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game to Citizens Bank Park.

The Home Run Derby and All-Star Game will be the headline events on July 13 and 14, but MLB’s presence in Philadelphia will stretch beyond two nights in South Philly. With All-Star festivities planned throughout the host city, MLB appears to be doing more than bringing one of baseball’s marquee events to Philadelphia. It is positioning Philadelphia itself as one of the stars of All-Star Week.

A fan festival built around Philadelphia

Philadelphia has always had a distinct feel and flavor. If you walk its streets for any stretch (like PSN’s own Jimmy King, who is well-known for his walks around the city), you can find yourself being transported from historic sections like Old City to trendy Fishtown or even into blue-collar South Philly. With a high-visibility event such as All-Star Week, it is easy for the personality of a city to get lost in the glitz and glamour of the national spotlight. Many major sporting events can feel interchangeable from city to city, with the host market serving as little more than a backdrop. MLB is opting to bring some of Philadelphia’s personality into the spotlight.

One of the best opportunities for this lies in the Capital One All-Star Village, a multi-day fan festival that will take place from July 11-14 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Situated in Center City, the Convention Center gives MLB a chance to host the event from the middle of Philadelphia’s daily rhythm. The South Philadelphia Sports Complex is the perfect home for the city’s teams, but it is also its own island of stadiums and parking lots. The Convention Center, by contrast, places All-Star Village in the middle of the city’s daily rhythm.

The All-Star Village will be a City of Neighborhoods with each section representing a different neighborhood in Philly such as Old City, Fairmount, or South Philly. A modern-day baseball theme park, the Village will feature over 50 different activities for fans to check out, including the Capital One PLAY BALL PARK which will be an area specifically designed for younger fans. Former Phillies players, MLB Hall of Famers, and Olympic softball stars will be around throughout the week to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.

The accessible entry point for fans

The issue with hosting nationally lauded events like All-Star Week is that the local market often gets priced out of actually attending the events themselves. Two tickets for the All-Star Game proper on Seatgeek will cost a buyer over $1,000 in the upper tier of the 400-level. For much of a fanbase, they simply do not have the funds to even attempt to attend the marquee events.

Even Phillies season-ticket holders have faced limited access to the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby. Full-season ticket holders and select partial-plan holders with enough seniority were given purchase opportunities during the winter, while other partial-plan holders were entered into a raffle for the chance to purchase tickets to either marquee event. For many fans, that leaves the resale market as the only path into the biggest nights of the week.

The All-Star Village is one of those rare events that seeks to break that barrier down. At $35 per ticket, All-Star Village sits at a far more reachable price point than the week’s marquee events. For a limited time, you can also purchase tickets for $10 using the code ASVD. If that deal expires, there is also a deal where a family of four can purchase their tickets for $110. While that same family of four may not be able to attend the All-Star Game or Home Run Derby without spending thousands on tickets alone, they can still attend the Village and feel connected to the action. They can sample ballpark food from across the league, take part in skills games, explore the youth-focused PLAY BALL PARK, or interact with some of the biggest names in baseball.

A walk down Phillies memory lane

Some of the best memories for a young baseball fan are the moments when you get to meet the players. Asking for autographs and getting your picture taken creates a memory that will last a lifetime. For young Philadelphia fans, All-Star Village could become one of the more memorable parts of the week. In fact, with the range of names scheduled to attend the All-Star Village, Phillies fans of every age should attend, ready to feel like that young baseball fan at heart once more.

Some of the biggest generational names in Phillies baseball will be present at the All-Star Village over the four days. Among the former players confirmed attending are legends such as Steve Carlton, Larry Bowa, Greg “The Bull” Luzinski, and Manny Trillo. Former player and current Phillies broadcaster John Kruk will also be in attendance allong with Bobby Abreu and Mike Lieberthal.

Several of the core members of the 2008 World Series team will also be in attendance. Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins are set to record a live episode of their podcast “The 6-1-1” at the Village. Occasional broadcaster Cole Hamels will also be in attendance joined by Jamie Moyer and Carlos Ruiz.

Closing out the list of Phillies alumni is a recent name. Jean Segura, who retired in May 2025, will also be making his rounds at the All-Star Village.

The bigger picture of who baseball is for

The Phillies contingent will be strong at All-Star Village, but they will be far from the only show in town. While the Hall of Fame names certainly headline the event, Major League Baseball is also using the event to showcase a much larger vision for America’s pastime.

Olympic softball stars Jennie Finch and Natasha Watley are scheduled to take part in the festivities as are MLB Girls’ Baseball and Youth Softball Ambassadors Veronica Alvarez and Lauren Gipson.

For an event built for and around fan participation, pushing beyond nostalgia and into something more future-facing matters. Between the youth-focused PLAY BALL PARK, skills games, clinics, and the Women in Baseball exhibit, MLB is not just asking fans to remember what baseball has been. It is inviting them to imagine who the game can still reach.

MLB is setting the table for what can be a very balanced experience during All-Star Week. Naturally, the memories of Phillies legends, Red October runs, and generational stars will garner attention. But with the All-Star Village, MLB also has the chance to put the next generation right in the middle of the action. From stepping up in the batting cage to meeting an Olympian, or getting their name announced like they were the No. 1 pick in the MLB Draft, fans will leave with their dreams of making the Major Leagues reinvigorated in a brand new way.

And at worst case, the brigade of MLB and MiLB mascots, undoubtedly led by the Phillie Phanatic, will make people leave with laughs galore.

An All-Star summer in Philly

Once upon a time, the All-Star Game carried a direct consequence. For years, home-field advantage in the World Series was determined by which league won the Midsummer Classic. That is no longer the case. The game still showcases the sport’s best talent, but All-Star Week has increasingly become something larger: a multi-day celebration of baseball itself.

This All-Star Game is a perfect example. Over the course of All-Star Week, all of Major League Baseball will come to Philadelphia and not only experience the best baseball has to offer, but the best Philadelphia has to offer. The history, atmosphere, and culture that all contribute to create one of the proudest cities in the country.

And while the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby are still the main attractions, the All-Star Village will serve as a place of connection for local fans. From former players to ballpark bites to the different attractions and experiences, the All-Star Village is set to become the perfect celebration of Philadelphia baseball.
