The Philadelphia Union and their fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The Union is defeated no more after picking up a 2-1 win over CF Montreal during Matchday seven.
The Union saw themselves down 1-0 heading into the second half, but mounted a comeback with goals by Japhet Sery Larsen and Jesús Bueno. Philly finally has points to its name in 2026.
Out West, LAFC is no longer perfect. They dropped a 2-1 loss to the Portland Timbers on Saturday afternoon. A late goal by Kevin Kelsy in the 90+6' helped Portland pick up a big three points.
Inter Miami picked up its second consecutive draw. Miami hosted the New York Red Bulls in a thrilling match that ended 2-2. The young stars for the Red Bulls shone again in this one.
MLS Matchday seven gave us plenty more to reflect on heading into Matchday eight, especially regarding standings positions.
Finally. A win for Philly. In the midst of their worst start in club history, the Union finally has something to smile about. A win over CF Montreal doesn't sound that crazy, but it's big for the Union and something to build off of.
CF Montreal also fired its head coach, Marco Donadel, following the loss.
Montreal saw itself in the lead in the 23rd minute following a goal from Iván Jamie. It looked like the same old Union heading into halftime, but things turned around in the second half.
Japhet Sery Larsen scored a header in the 55th minute for his first-ever MLS goal. Then in the 70th minute, Jesús Bueno put Philly in front. Montreal had a late chance in the 90+6' from a free kick, but couldn't muster a strong scoring chance. After the final whistle blew, the Union was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Here is a result that not many people expected from the weekend. The Portland Timbers took down LAFC in stoppage time to give LAFC its first loss of the season and first two goals conceded.
Portland drew first blood in the 32nd minute with a goal from Kristoffer Velde. Portland entered the second half with the lead until Jude Terry equalized for LAFC in the 49th minute with a spectacular goal.
It went until the 90+6' for Portland to find their go-ahead goal. A crazy sequence from a far-side cross saw Kevin Kelsy score the winner for the Timbers.
LAFC were without Son in this one, and it certainly showed.
Inter Miami picked up its second consecutive draw in Nu Stadium on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls.
Red Bulls answered first in the 15th minute with a goal from Jorge Ruvalcaba. Right before the halftime whistle, Matro Silvetti converted for Miami in the 45+2' to go into the half tied up.
Germán Berterame scored his first goal for Miami in the 55th minute to go ahead 2-1. But then, the youngsters for the Red Bulls showed up. Julian Hall danced around in the box to set up Adri Mehmeti for the equalizer.
Miami came so close to taking the lead again in the 90th minute, but Lionel Messi was called for offside, which took away Berterame's nearly brace.
The Colorado Rapids put up six goals on the Houston Dynamo for a commanding win. Colorado put this one out of reach early in the 5th minute when Kosi Thompson opened the scoring. He would add a brace in the 53rd minute.
Joshya Atencio doubled the lead in the 17th minute for Colorado. They entered the second half up 2-0 and then added four more goals to win 6-2.
San Diego FC now sits eighth in the Western Conference after falling 2-1 to Minnesota United.
Luca Bombino put San Diego ahead in the seventh minute until Kyle Duncan tied things up in the 15th. Kelvin Yeboah gave Minnesota the go-ahead goal in the 40th minute, and San Diego didn't help their chances with a comeback when Christopher McVey was awarded a red card in the 46th minute.
Down to 10-men, San Diego didn't have anything to mount a comeback.
