MLS continues to be unpredictable. After 30 matchweeks, there are 10 teams that all have a chance to win the Supporters' Shield, the trophy given out to the best team throughout the regular season. The contenders have anywhere between six and nine games left in the season. Who is going to come out on top? Let's take a look at how the top five fared in Matchweek 30, look ahead to this weekend's clashes, and round out the top 10 by looking at the standings.

MLS Supporters’ Shield Watch After Matchday 30
1st Place: Philadelphia Union – 54 points from 28 games played
The Philadelphia Union has spent most of the 2025 season atop MLS, and they are back there after a little slip. Two weeks ago, they lost 1-0 at New York Red Bulls but followed that up with a 4-0 thrashing of Chicago Fire at home. Baribo, Wagner, Danley, and Iloski scored the goals in a dominant performance that sees Philly return to the top of the Shield race with six matches left to play.

This weekend, Philadelphia goes on the road again, this time to FC Cincinnati. This is the weekend's marquee matchup, as FC Cincinnati is just two points behind Philly. If a side can get all three points from this one, they may just be hoisting the Shield at the end of this gauntlet of a season. On top of that, both sides can clinch their spot in the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs.

2nd Place: San Diego FC – 53 points from 28 games played
Expansion side San Diego FC came into matchweek 30 on top of everyone. Head Coach Mikey Varas has his team playing the beautiful game in just their first year, and thanks to their efforts, they are the first team to clinch a berth in the playoffs. Unfortunately for them, they drew Portland Timbers 0-0 last week and dropped to second in the shield race, just one point behind Philly.

As San Diego heads into this weekend, they know they have six matches left to push for history. An expansion side winning the Shield would be a fantastic accomplishment, and they already know they'll be in the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs. They should be raring to go for it! They'll look to do just that on Sunday night when they take on LAFC in a huge Western Conference clash.

3rd Place: FC Cincinnati – 52 points from 28 games played
FC Cincinnati was one of the betting favorites to win the 2025 Supporters' Shield, and they have been at or near the top for most of the year. However, recent results after the League Cup tournament have left this team further down the standings. Two losses in their last three games have FCC sitting in third place ahead of their monumental game vs. Philly tonight.

Cincinnati has not been stagnant in the now-closed transfer window. It brought in five new attacking players, the most significant addition being former striker Brenner. Cincy now has a three-headed monster of an attack: Brenner, Denkey, and Evander. Will that be enough to best Philly in what could be the biggest game of the season? All eyes will be on TQL Stadium tonight to find out.

4th Place: Nashville SC – 50 points from 28 games played
Nashville SC has been one of the season's surprises, and they are showing that they are not a fluke. They have an elite attack in MLS, Golden Boot leader Sam Surridge has 20 goals on the season, and previous league MVP Hanny Mukhtar has 14 goals. Both had braces in their 5-1 beatdown of Orlando last weekend. Now with six matches to play, they are just four points off the Shield lead.

As they enter the weekend, Nashville knows they have an excellent opportunity to rise up the Sheild and Eastern Conference standings. A win against lowly Atlanta United this weekend, combined with Philly and Cincy taking points from one another, could see the Tennessee side move up the standings. Either way, they know the work they can do with so few games remaining in their MLS season.

5th Place: Minnesota United – 50 points from 28 games played
Minnesota United is making a jump into the top five this week. This team has been in the top four of the West, but hasn't made the jump to being a true contender for the Shield. Have the Loons ' two wins in a row changed that? They're just four points off the top spot with six games left to play, thanks to a 3-1 win over RSL last week. Now, they take on a competitive Portland side this weekend.

A win coupled with other teams at the top dropping points could see Minnesota move up in the standings even more. It would also help their chances of making the Audi 2025 MLS Cup playoffs. However, they will have to manage without one of their best, Tani Oluwaseyi, who was just transferred to Villarreal in Spain. Even so, the Loons are a strong side coached well by a coach on the rise, Eric Ramsay, who will look to defy expectations.

Rounding out the top 10
The MLS teams that round out the top 10 are all very talented. They will be playoff teams, but can they compete for the Supporters' Shield as well? Three points gained for any of these teams would see them move anywhere from two to five points away from the Shield. In other words, yes, these teams are still legit contenders even if they only have six matches left to play.
6th Place: Vancouver Whitecaps – 49 points from 27 games played
7th Place: Charlotte FC – 47 points from 28 games played
8th Place: Orlando City – 47 points from 28 games played
9th Place: Inter Miami CF – 46 points from 25 games played
10th Place: Columbus Crew SC – 45 points from 27 games played
The interesting thing about three of these teams, Vancouver, Columbus, and Miami, is that they all have at least one game in hand with the rest of the League. Miami, especially, having four games in hand, could make a late-season push to the Shield if they win their games in hand. The end of the 2025 MLS season will be one to watch. Make sure you tune in this weekend to see the top seven in action!
