A bold, R-rated twist on traditional magic has grown into a worldwide sensation for Australia’s 'The Naked Magicians.'
Following a Las Vegas residency, a season on London's West End, and performances in over 250 cities across the globe, the adults-only hit returns to Philadelphia on Feb. 21 for the ultimate night out with a playful blend of comedy, illusion, and fun.
The show’s performers, Jack, and newcomer Anton, deliver world-class magic and plenty of laughs while wearing nothing more than a top hat and a smile. The duo recently spoke with Metro about the origins of “The Naked Magicians” and why audiences are embracing this anything-goes approach to live entertainment.
Anton: Early last year I went through a breakup with a long-term girlfriend and I did what every newly single does… learn magic. I knew I could do regular magic for a while, but add comedy and nudity? I could do that forever.
Anton: 'The Naked Magicians' was crafted by two blokes down in Australia — the idea was 'Magic Mike', but with actual magic. The world needed a magic show that also made a perfect girls’ night out and 'The Naked Magicians' delivered
Jack: Whether you are a fan of magic, comedy, or ripped shirtless men, this show has something for you. Clocking in at only about 90 minutes from start to end, this show is long enough for you to laugh until your abs hurt, witness amazing magic, and maybe even participate with us up on stage, but we keep it short enough to leave you wanting more. And we mean that in more ways than one.
Anton: The show is the perfect mix of comedy, magic, and sexy fun. You won’t see these kinds of jokes, tricks, or bodies at a regular magic show.
Jack: Because we all have a naughty sense of humor, but often in our lives, there isn’t an environment that allows us to play with that type of humor comfortably. 'The Naked Magicians' provides a safe space for cheeky, honest, and relatively uncensored humor that fans of live entertainment desperately want right now.
Jack: We want our Philly audiences to know just how much we love the city. The last time this show was here, the audience participation and energy were unforgettable. We could not be more excited to be back in historic Philly.
