A man is dead and a woman was hospitalized after shots were fired at a tow truck Sunday night in Northeast Philadelphia.

Police said the gunfire erupted just before 8 p.m. on the 2100 block of Knorr Street, near Bustleton Avenue, in the Castor Gardens neighborhood.

Officers found 25-year-old Aaron Whitfield, of East Mount Airy, inside the truck with multiple wounds to his head and body, according to authorities. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old woman was also shot in her left leg and taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition, the PPD said.

Two suspects reportedly fired at the truck from a car. Law enforcement officials have not commented on a possible motive for the attack.

No arrests have been made, and anyone with information is asked to call or text the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

The incident is the second shooting on the same block of Knorr in less than a week. On Tuesday, Jan. 6, a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg as a pair of gunmen stole his watch and cash, according to investigators.
