A police officer was hospitalized after a confrontation on 17th Street near Mt. Vernon Street turned violent this afternoon.Details are murky, but the officer tried to stop two people around 11 a.m., then called for assistance as a disturbance broke out and he became injured.The officer sustained a cut to his forehead and was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he is in stable condition.Police took a man into custody for his involvement with the incident.
