A young man was killed in a hail of gunfire early Wednesday morning in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia, authorities said.
Officers were called just before 2:45 a.m. to the 800 block of Wynnewood Road, where they found a 19-year-old man who had been shot multiple times in the chest, police said. He was rushed to Lankenau Medical Center and died just before 3:30 a.m., according to law enforcement officials.
PPD Chief Inspector Scott Small told television crews at the scene that the victim was getting into a rideshare vehicle when he was ambushed by two gunmen. Investigators reportedly recovered evidence that at least 40 shots were fired.
Authorities have not publicly identified the man, and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
Through Sept. 22, 127 individuals had been murdered in Philadelphia this year, down 21% from the same date in 2025, PPD data shows.
