The Philadelphia Cycling Classic is back this Sunday, Aug. 30, after a decade-long hiatus.
Although the last edition of the race was held in 2016, the Classic brings with it more than three decades of history. One of the event's biggest draws is its accessibility — the race is completely free to attend with no tickets or assigned seating required. On that date, the city is its own stadium, and spectators can watch world-class cyclists speed by from sidewalks, stoops, parks and public gathering spaces.
The 2026 edition also marks the return of the race's Benjamin Franklin Parkway finish, plus the Classic is also returning as one of only three Union Cycliste Internationale-sanctioned road races in the United States. Meaning, while the professionals headline the day's competition, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic also offers cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the course themselves. Through a partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research, participants can register for the Charity Ride, taking on a lap of the same route while raising funds to support cancer research.
Some prime locales to post up and watch throughout the city include the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Main Street in Manayunk, Levering Street, Kelly Drive at Midvale and Lemon Hill. But there are also a few businesses hosting some watch parties for the occasion that are worth checking out as well.
For one, Love City Manayunk (4323 Main St.) will host a Philadelphia Cycling Classic Watch Party on race day. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., guests can enjoy coffee, beer-mosas, Bloody Marys, breakfast sandwiches, and barbecue while watching the race course from the brewery's first- and second-floor (which has prime views of the action). On that date, the taproom will remain open until 6 p.m.
The Manayunk Development Corporation will also host the Manayunk Family Watch Party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Main and Levering streets. The event will feature activities for cyclists, families and fans, including a Design Your Ride Shades station, a bike helmet bedazzling stop, a tie-dye party and a Towpath scavenger hunt.
Restaurants, cafés, bars and retailers throughout the neighborhood will also offer special race-day promotions, with some businesses opening as early as 8 or 8:30 a.m. Merchant activations will include cycling-themed art, fitness challenges, dog-friendly activities, crafts, breakfast specials and more.
This spot is also a prime location to view the Manayunk Wall portion of the race. As a release notes, the Manayunk Wall remains one of the most legendary climbs in American cycling as the steep climb on here reaches grades of approximately 17 percent.
Visitors are encouraged to take public transportation here, with the Manayunk-Norristown Line offering a roughly 15-minute train ride from Center City to Manayunk Station. Limited parking will also be available at the Green Lane lot.
