Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs: A Super Bowl rematch for the ages

Posted

A few short months ago, the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs on the biggest stage of all, winning a Lombardi Trophy in euphoric fashion. In week 2, the two juggernauts clash again, and all eyes will be on what promises to be another spectacular clash.

Eagles vs Chiefs: Game preview

The Eagles storm into a week 2 matchup against the Chiefs with a kick in their step. A huge win over divisional rivals Dallas sent Philly to the top of the NFC East, while KC is reeling after being upset by Justin Herbert and the Chargers.

Philadelphia does look to have the advantage at most positions on paper, in particular, the wide receiver room vs the secondary. While A.J Brown and DeVonta Smith received very little attention in the season-opener, we know what both are capable of. Two all-world talents at the top of their game, and if they’re bracketed, it only opens the doors for Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts to run riot on the ground.

As for the Chiefs, their receiving corps is made up of a group of misfit toys. Hollywood Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster headline a depleted group, while an aging Travis Kelce and an inconsistent run game behind Isaiah Pacheco hardly instils confidence. Against a defense as stacked as Philadelphia's, it's hard to expect many fireworks.

Perhaps the big question mark will be how Kevin Patullo's offense looks in week 2. After a strong start, the flame soon faded against the Cowboys, but some of that can be attributed to the rain-delay. The Eagles will need to keep some surprises in their bag of tricks in order to unsettle a highly experienced outfit, and one that I'm sure has done some extra homework with revenge on the mind.

The Eagles know that a win over Kansas City not only carries a lot of weight in terms of how good this team is following an offseason where they would be expected to take a step back due to the Super Bowl win, but in terms of how much untapped potential remains. The Chiefs have some good pieces defensively, but with the offense being so boom-or-bust, it favors a Philly offense that can dictate the tempo with ease. Whether they want to chew the clock or launch an Ariel assault, the Birds can hurt KC in many ways.

Eagles vs Chiefs: Predictions

This should be a very winnable fixture for the Eagles, and while both offense have some high-flying pieces, I'm expecting a much lower scoring game than we saw in the Super Bowl. A 24-17 Philadelphia win sounds about right, with Philly looking to control the clock and keep Patrick Mahomes firing off his back foot.
