Philadelphia’s Power Up Tour returns with free laptops, digital skills training

Posted

Philadelphia residents will have another opportunity to receive free laptops and access digital skills training as the city’s Office of Innovation and Technology (OIT) brings back its Power Up Tour.

The 2026-27 tour expands on the initiative’s first year and will provide more than 1,000 free laptops to eligible city residents throughout the tour.

At each stop, 50 pre-registered residents who meet eligibility requirements will receive a free laptop. Participants will also have access to post-event digital skills classes.

“Technology creates opportunities for education, employment, healthcare, and connection, but only if people have access to it,” said Mayor Cherelle  Parker. “We are bringing devices, training, and support directly into neighborhoods so more Philadelphians can fully participate in today’s digital economy.”

The latest Power Up Tour officially launched on Aug. 4 in Southwest Philadelphia in partnership with City Council President Kenyatta Johnson, who represents the 2nd Council District.

Additional tour dates and locations will be announced throughout the year.

“Access to a device is an important first step, but true digital equity means having the skills, resources, and confidence to use technology effectively,” said Melissa Scott, chief information officer for OIT.

Residents looking for other digital resources, including home internet access, public Wi-Fi, digital skills training and ongoing technology support, can call 311 or visit the city’s Digital Equity Resources page.
