Major League Soccer leaders Philadelphia Union announced on Friday that Isaiah LeFlore will be loaned from the Philadelphian outfit to Detroit City FC. The American defender, who joined Philadelphia from Houston Dynamo 2, will be with the United Soccer League side for the remainder of the 2025 season.

As Bradley Carnell and his Union team gear up for the final five games of the MLS season, hoping to get their hands on the Supporters’ Shield, releasing a player might seem a very wrong decision at this time. However, knowing the said player hasn't been a major or minor contributor to their success as league leaders brings some sort of relief.

Instead, Isaiah LeFlore was a more regular and consistent face in the MLS NEXT Pro, making 20 starts for Union II in a possible 23 games so far this season. From the center back position, the American scored one goal and made three assists while helping the team secure all eight clean sheets within the 20 games he started.

As Detroit City FC tries to seal their spot in the United Soccer League playoffs, LeFlore is one addition that will undeniably reinforce its squad. The club was vocal about the gap he was coming to fill, as reflected in the caption attached to the announcement post on Detroit City FC’s official X account:

While Isaiah LeFlore chases the playoffs with Detroit City FC, Philadelphia is in a hot race for the Supporters’ Shield. Having bagged 57 points in 29 games, the race for the Supporters’ Shield is a very competitive one, with San Diego sitting in second place, four points behind, and Cincinnati sitting at third place, five points adrift of Philadelphia Union.

Beyond this, the Union faced a very tough journey to TQL Stadium to take on FC Cincinnati in a match that has been labeled a title decider. A 1-0 win for Philadelphia Union sees them create a bit of distance in this race. Perhaps, the biggest threat to their triumph is a team that isn’t even in the top five.

Despite sitting in ninth position with 46 points, Inter Miami could win the Supporters’ Shield if it wins all nine of its remaining games this season. Regardless of how excellent the Union perform in their final five games, with four more games to play, Inter Miami winning all remaining nine games will see the Supporters’ Shield go to the Chase Stadium for the second season in a row.
