A lot of news has broken in the last 24 hours surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies.
Rumors of Don Mattingly being the club’s next bench coach was quickly suppressed by the breaking news of Kyle Schwarber returning to the club. With the buzz surrounding the big slugger, the Phillies slipped out additional news surrounding manager Rob Thomson.
The club announced Tuesday morning that Thomson’s contract has been extended through the conclusion of the 2027 season. This adds an additional year to his current contract and takes away the “lame-duck” conversations that would have appeared if he started 2026 without a new deal.
Since becoming manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, Thomson is 346-251 in regular season action. In the post-season, Thomson is 21-17.
He is a two-time National League East champion, as well as a National League champion. The Phillies’ skipper finished as a runner-up for the National League manager of the year award in 2025.
Thomson has the second most wins in baseball since taking over the club. He is second in both wins and win percentage to Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He is the fourth manager in Major League Baseball history to make the postseason in each of his first four seasons as a manager. He is just the third Phillies skipper to win consecutive division titles, joining Danny Ozark and Charlie Manuel.
Thomson mentioned during the end of season press conference that he would love to manage as long as he was still having fun, being treated well (by fans and media) and if the Phillies would have him. The Phillies showcased their commitment to Topper with this lastest news.
