Phillies drop 2027 schedule amidst hazy negotiation conditions

Posted

Hours before the Phillies rang in the second half of the 2026 season on Thursday, the organization released its schedule for the 2027 season.

As has become customary in recent years, the Phillies are slated to face all 29 other organizations in Major League Baseball.

The run through

Opening Day will find the Phillies on the road in 2027 as they take I-95 down to the Washington Nationals on Thursday, March 25. As typical for Opening Day games in outdoor stadiums, Friday, March 26, is a scheduled off day. March 26 will be the only Friday on the Phillies’ schedule that is off for the season after the team had to endure five in 2026.

2027 will be a much less frantic season down at Citizens Bank Park, as there will be no All-Star Game or World Cup to manage schedules and logistics with. Instead, the Phillies will be the home team for several fan-favorite days such as Mother’s Day (May 9 vs. the Atlanta Braves), Memorial Day (May 31 vs. the Toronto Blue Jays), Father’s Day (June 20 vs. the San Francisco Giants), and Independence Day (July 4 vs. the Seattle Mariners).

The general flow of the schedule cycle means the Phillies essentially rotate which American League teams they host and which ones they travel to face every season. Some home highlights for 2027 include the Los Angeles Angels (May 21-23), the Toronto Blue Jays (May 31-June 2), and the Boston Red Sox (July 27-29).

The All-Star Break will be from July 12-15, with the Phillies kicking off the second half at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The regular season kicked off against the Nationals, and it will end against them as well, as the teams meet in Philadelphia to conclude the regular season from September 24-26.

Not only is March 25 the earliest traditional Opening Day in MLB history, but if all goes smoothly, this will be the earliest the regular season has concluded since 1955, when it wrapped up on September 25.

A word of caution

As always, the Phillies noted on the schedule that it is “subject to change.” Typically, this just means the occasional game gets moved due to a schedule conflict, weather, or special conditions such as the Field of Dreams game. 2027, however, is even more subject to change due to the looming threat of a lockout.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement between MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association is set to expire at the end of the 2026 season. Should the two parties be unable to reach a deal by the start of the season, the owners may lock the players out until a contract is reached.

While much could be said about the negotiation efforts, it would suffice to say that the sides seem far from an agreement at the time of publishing.

Until such a time as MLB and MLBPA come to an agreement, the 2027 schedule and any plans you may want to make relating to it should have a large asterisk next to it. Everyone hopes it can happen, but hopes don’t always reflect reality.
