Phillies promote Aidan Miller to Triple-A

Posted

PHILADELPHIA— Keep an eye on the next generation of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Late on Sunday evening, the Phillies promoted top position player prospect Aidan Miller to the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Miller, the organization’s second overall prospect, was selected by the team in the first round of the 2023 Major League Baseball Amateur draft. He is currently the 41-ranked prospect in all of Major League Baseball.

He had spent all of 2025 with the Reading Fightin Phillies, the organization’s Double-A affiliate. At just 21 years old, Miller is flying through the minor leagues. The expectation is that he will remain with the IronPigs for the rest of 2025. If last year’s Spring Training was any indication, I would expect him to get an extended look to join the big league club out of camp next year.

Per CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr, the Phillies also promoted prospects Dante Nori and Aroon Escobar to Double-A Reading in a corresponding move.

Selected as a shortstop, many anticipated the young right-hander to potentially move to another infield position once arriving in the Phillies’ system. Instead, Miller has played fantastic defense at the shortstop position and has grown this aspect of his game. With Trea Turner under contract until 2033, it will be interesting to see how the Phillies handle Miller’s position.

This season in Double-A Reading, Miller is hitting .256 with an .806 OPS in 109 games. An underrated aspect of his game is on the path bases. Miller has swiped 51 bases for the Fightin Phils and leads all of Double-A.

It took him a while to get acclimated to Double-A pitching, but Miller has caught fire since August 1. In that 26-game stretch, the young shortstop is slashing .356/.480/.644/1.124 with 19 extra-base hits. He has proven to be ready to take the next step, and the Phillies are trusting him with their action Sunday evening.

Keeping an eye on the IronPigs for the remainder of the 2025 season should be a treat for Phillies fans.
