Phillies' scoreless streak reaches 20 innings, blanked by Giants in finale

After winning in comeback fashion Monday night, the Phillies failed to score in their final two games against the San Francisco Giants.

Typically, you need to score in order to win baseball games.

The Philadelphia Phillies failed to score in their final two games against the San Francisco Giants.

In fact, the team has not scored in 20 straight innings.

Speaking of failing, the club failed to win a series in San Francisco once again. They have not won a road series against the Giants since 2013.

Philadelphia has fallen to 6-6 this season.

Thomson's mistake

On Wednesday afternoon, Aaron Nola was battling his way through the bottom of the sixth inning.

With two men on and one out, Nola struck out Giants' third baseman Matt Chapman thanks to an ABS challenge from Rafael Marchan. This pitch by Nola should have been his last and would have capped an otherwise solid performance.

Instead, Rob Thomson left his starter in the ballgame to face Rafael Devers, despite having Tanner Banks ready to come out of the bullpen.

Devers went to the plate looking to do damage.

He did.

Devers took Nola to deep center field, giving San Francisco a 3-0 lead. That was all the Giants needed.

This move was a mistake on Thomson's part.

After the game, the Phillies' manager mentioned that Devers was 2-for-15 against Nola all time.

"I thought it was his game right there."

Lineup changes

Heading into their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phillies should look to shake up their lineup.

Alec Bohm is hitting .186 (8-for-43) to start the season. Bohm has hit in the cleanup spot in all 11 games played so far in 2026.

The swap should take place with Adolis Garcia, who is hitting .250 (11-for-44). Garcia hit fourth on Tuesday, when Bohm was given the night off. Garcia has hit the ball much harder than Bohm so far this season and has a .738 OPS versus Bohm's .550.

Another swap should be between Bryson Stott and Brandon Marsh.

Stott is hitting .167 (6-for-36) with a .405 OPS. Marsh is hitting .275 (11-for-40) with a .727 OPS.

Proposed lineup:

  1. Turner - R
  2. Schwarber - L
  3. Harper - L
  4. Garcia - R
  5. Marsh - L
  6. Bohm - R
  7. Stott - L
  8. Realmuto/Marchan - R/S
  9. Crawford - L
