City officials are warning residents about scammers who have set up a fake Philadelphia Water Department website intended to lure people into forking over their personal financial information.
The myphillywaterbill.com URL is a fraudulent site that mimics the water department’s actual website, according to the city’s Department of Revenue. The page shows up in search engine results, officials said.
Residents are advised to avoid the site, along with those of the same name bearing the .org or .gov domain names. PWD customers can access their real bill at phila.gov/waterbill, which directs to https://secure8.i-doxs.net/.
Anyone who has shared sensitive information with the scam site is encouraged to report it to the FBI at 215-418-4000 or tips.fbi.gov. Victims can also reach out to the Federal Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
The city advises residents to be skeptical of unsolicited requests for personal information, report suspicious activity, and verify payment details through official city channels and websites.
