Report: Former Warriors exec Bob Myers joins Sixers' ownership group Harris-Blitzer

Credited for his contributions to the Golden State Warriors' dynasty, Myers is joining an ownership group that manages the Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Commanders, among other teams.

It's been a long time coming, but on the morning of Friday, Oct. 17, it became official. Former Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers is joining the primary ownership group of the Philadelphia 76ers, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment.

Along with the Sixers, Harris-Blitzer owns and operates the Washington Commanders of the NFL, the New Jersey Devils of the NHL, Crystal Palace FC of the Premier League, and a stake in Joe Gibbs Racing (NASCAR).

Bob Myers stepped down from his position with Golden State in May of 2023 and had since begun a role at ESPN as a basketball analyst before taking on his new role of president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment. The news was first reported by Myers' now former associate at ESPN, Adam Schefter.

In this new position, Myers will look to lend some of his championship experience to several franchises who have seen multiple decades pass since their last championship. Crystal Palace did claim victory in the most recent Emirates Cup, but finished 12th in Premier League standings.

According to Schefter, there will be no changes to the reporting structures of the HBSE teams -- the presidents of basketball and hockey Operations will continue to report to their respective team ownership.

How will this impact the Sixers?

Those old enough to remember the Colangelos descending upon Philadelphia—It was not even ten years ago, though it feels like a lifetime—may be feeling a sense of Deja Vu.

The NBA reportedly pressured the Sixers to add Jerry Colangelo—who eventually placed his son, Bryan, in charge of the team—at the behest of owners around the league to speed up the organization's infamous rebuild. The addition of Colangelo was the first domino, which ultimately led to the Exodus of then General Manager Sam Hinkie.

Many have long speculated whether history could be repeating itself.

Last season was an embarrassment for the franchise. That was felt by the players, the fan base, the front office, and certainly the ownership group. While President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey kept his position with the team, it's clear his leash is not infinite. Since talk of Myres joining Harris first began, so have rumors of him eventually taking over for Morey.

While Myers is set to focus on the greater operations involving the organization's various sports enterprises, it's hard not to imagine him holding an influential role over the Sixers moving forward.
