With just a week to go before the end of the season, Phillies Manager Rob Thomson provided updates on injured players before the start of the final homestand.
Trea Turner and Edmundo Sosa
Both of the Phillies' missing bats, Trea Turner and Edmundo Sosa, took live batting practice from a handful of minor league pitchers with simulated at-bats. Both will do so again tomorrow, and if all looks well, Edmundo Sosa will be activated before Wednesday's game.
The Phillies brought up Daniel Harper, Tommy McCollum and Andrew Walling to throw BP. Thomson had some praise for Walling whom he hadn't seen before. "The fastball was 93 and it had some really strange movement on it," said Thomson. "It was hard for the hitters to pick up. He did a really good job."
Rob Thomson said that he hopes to get Turner back to get some at-bats during the weekend series against the Minnesota Twins. As of now, he said Turner was running at "70-75%" speed.
"I came in here yesterday and watched run", said Thomson. "I was really encouraged by it."
Even with his absence, Turner still leads the National League in hits and batting average. If he takes home the batting title, he'll be the first Phillies player to do so since Richie Ashburn in 1958.
Zack Wheeler
While Zack Wheeler will still miss the postseason because of venous thoracic outlet syndrome, Thomson did provide an update on the Phillies' ace.

Zack Wheeler had successful thoracic outlet decompression surgery. He'll be staying in St. Louis for the next 3-4 days to recover. The timeline for recovery will be 6-8 months.
Jordan Romano
Jordan Romano is not currently throwing but is still attempting to rehab. He went on the injured list with right middle finger inflammation on August 26.
