Doug Pederson told the media today that the injury is a "Major Deal"..and without Wendell Smallwood or Kenjon Barner, undrafted rookie Byron Marshall could see a heavy workload once again. Fellow undrafted rookie Terrell Watson could also see his first NFL regular season carries as a result of the injury.

Mathews has often been labelled as "injury-prone" and this is just the latest in a series of unfortunate injuries for the Eagles lead rusher. Mathews had rushed for 661 yards on 155 carrie, for a total of eight touchdowns this season.

The loss of Mathews is a major blow, both to the Offense and the long-term job security of the 29-year old. The Eagles are set to enter another rollercoaster offseason and the durability of Mathews could well be a factor when building the future of the Eagles backfield.
