Say what you want about the Eagles, Nick Sirianni continues to make history

Posted

First impressions can be the last impression. In sports, coaches and players have a chance to change the narrative and perspective surrounding them and that certainly is the case with Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni. We all remember his awkward, stumbling introductory press conference in 2021. It was a press conference that did not instill a lot of confidence in a man who did not become an offensive coordinator until 2018 with Indianapolis, holding that role for three seasons before taking over the head coaching job in one of the most passionate cities for football in the 32-team circuit.

That presser is well in the rearview mirror. That nervous then, 39-year-old, standing at the podium explaining his vision using the 2016 Villanova Men's basketball team in the championship game as an example on how he wants his team to handle situations, has created a winning culture that has etched him into the NFL record books.

In rare company

With the 4-0 start to the season, Sirianni finds himself alongside two Hall of Fame coaches to become just the third ever head coach to have three 4-0 starts in their first five seasons.

The other two seasons Sirianni and Philadelphia started the first month of a regular season and beyond unbeaten was in 2023 when they got off to a 5-0 start and in 2022 where they rattled of eight straight wins to open up the year.

Philadelphia is the only remaining NFC team that is undefeated and just one of two teams in the NFL, along with Buffalo, that remain unbeaten through four games. The Eagles and Bills will see each other in the penultimate week of the regular season in Week 17.

In addition, the team is currently on a 10-game winning streak dating back to last season which started after their loss to Washington in Week 16 when Jalen Hurts left that game due to injury. It marks the second 10-game win streak for Sirianni and his Eagles in the last calendar year. The pair of 10-game win streaks has helped the team post an eye-popping 20-1 record over their last 21 games played.

Sirianni is the only head coach in franchise history to win 10 consecutive games and he has now done it twice.

Eagles HC continues to stack wins and build culture

The 20-1 record over the last 21 games is beyond impressive. The team has been able to buy in to Sirianni's vision and core values. He resonates with the players. He respects their relationships. He has been asked numerous times throughout his tenure, and most recently regarding A.J. Brown's latest social media post and he adamantly and consistently states he will not share any in-house conversation between him and his players. He simply will not do it out of respect for his players.

His messaging hits home. Winning certainly helps that, but he has found a way to turn the Eagles into the best version the team arguably has ever seen, rivaling the early 2000s squads.

Entering Week 5, Sirianni is 52-20 in the regular season good for a .722 winning percentage which places him inside the top five in NFL history in win percentage trailing three legendary Hall of Fame coaches including John Madden and Vince Lombardi.

In his five years in Philadelphia, Sirianni has worked with five different offensive coordinators, and technically four defensive coordinators if you include the disastrous switch to Matt Patricia in the middle of the 2023 season when Sean Desai and the defense struggled. Despite the constant changing in his two highest positions on his coaching staff, Sirianni has led the Eagles to each of his first four seasons including the franchise's second Super Bowl title last year and a runner up finish in 2022.

Not too shabby for a guy who used a picture of a flower to illustrate how he wanted his staff and players to plant metaphorical seeds to ultimately build up a culture that is now bearing the fruits of such a mindset with consistent winning for the last four seasons-plus seasons.
