The never-ending search for an offensive coordinator has come to an end for the Philadelphia Eagles. Sean Mannion has signed with the team, replacing Kevin Patullo for the 2026 season.
Mannion is another young coach regarded in a similar way to how Sirianni once was. Just 33 years old, the former quarterback joined the Green Bay Packers in 2024 as an offensive assistant, earning a promotion to QB coach one year later, where he helped Jordan Love post his best completion percentage and lowest interception total since 2022. He also played a key role in the development of Malik Willis, who looked more than capable when dropped into live action this past season.
In 2023, he was still playing as a backup QB for the Seattle Seahawks, finishing a nine-year career. The assumption would be that someone who has been in the league so recently will have a firm understanding of modern concepts and a keen eye for how to exploit the ever-evolving defenses we see today.
It takes a lot for anyone to break into an NFL coaching staff, let alone rise through the ranks this quickly. It's also not like the Eagles rushed this decision. They interviewed just about every possible candidate during a window where a whole heap of teams were in search of a new offensive mastermind. To say that Philly did some intense due diligence would be an understatement.
It remains to be seen just how much will change offensively from 2025 to next season, but the fact that Philly not only hired from outside its own talent pool but also spent so long choosing the right guy should instill some confidence in fans.
