Latest from the Sixers

The Sixers have won five straight games heading into Cleveland. Their lone loss came against the Pistons on Oct. 25, a defeat they avenged Wednesday night.

Philadelphia has continued to make adjustments and improvements as its revamped roster spends more time together on the court. Tyrese Maxey struggled with his shot against Detroit, but Jaylen Brown stepped up with his first 30-point performance as a Sixer. Joel Embiid added 26 points and 15 rebounds, while LeBron James finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

The starting lineup continues to build chemistry, and there's reason to believe the group can improve as the season progresses.

Offensively, the Sixers have too many weapons to be overly reliant on any one player. Even when one starter struggles, others are capable of carrying the scoring load.

Despite leading the team in scoring, Maxey hasn't shot the ball particularly well to start the season. If he can find a more consistent shooting rhythm, Philadelphia's offense could reach another level.

Meanwhile, defense was expected to be a potential weakness, but through nine games, the Sixers have emerged as one of the league's better defensive teams. Their ability to compete on both ends of the floor has made them a difficult matchup for opponents.

Latest on the Cavaliers

The Cavaliers entered the season hoping to build on last year's fourth-place finish in the Eastern Conference, but they've struggled to find their footing through eight games.

Donovan Mitchell has gotten off to another strong start, averaging 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game while shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc.

James Harden, meanwhile, has struggled to match his previous production. He's averaging 16.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game, with his scoring average on pace to be his lowest since the 2023-24 season with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Cleveland will need continued contributions from younger players such as Meleek Thomas and Peyton Watson, while Evan Mobley remains a major factor in the frontcourt.

Mobley is the team's second-leading scorer at 18.8 points per game, adding 8.3 rebounds while shooting 48.6 percent from beyond the arc on 4.4 attempts per game.

His ability to score inside and stretch the floor gives Cleveland an offensive dimension that few teams can match. If the Cavaliers are going to beat Philadelphia on Friday, they'll need Mobley at his best against the Sixers' frontcourt.

What to watch for tonight

In their first meeting of the season, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 24-point halftime lead against the Sixers before suffering a historic collapse.

Cleveland outscored Philadelphia 69-45 in the first half and led by as many as 29 points before the Sixers completed the largest comeback in franchise history during the play-by-play era.

The Cavaliers forced 15 first-half turnovers before committing 16 of their own in the second half, as Philadelphia's defensive pressure completely changed the momentum.

For the Sixers, the comeback offered an early glimpse of what this revamped roster could become. A team built around considerable offensive talent found a way to turn the game around with its defense, showing the impact its collective effort could have.

Look for Philadelphia to continue applying the defensive pressure that has become a defining part of its early-season success.

Brown is coming off his first 30-point performance with Philadelphia and has continued to make an impact on both ends of the floor. Maxey and VJ Edgecombe should also play important roles defensively, although they'll have their hands full trying to contain Mitchell.

The biggest challenge could come in the frontcourt, where Embiid, James, Jabari Walker and Dean Wade will be tasked with matching Cleveland's size and versatility.

The Cavaliers present a difficult matchup, but Philadelphia appears better equipped to handle that challenge than it was in the teams' first meeting.

Sixers 114, Cavaliers 103
