Report: Sixers reunite with center Charles Bassey on 10-day contract

Saturday evening, following a home loss to the New York Knicks, the Sixers made a roster addition, signing center Charles Bassey to a 10-day contract, a source has confirmed to Philly Sports Network.

The move, first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania, is noteworthy for multiple reasons, the primary of which is that it allows Philadelphia to utilize the remaining two-way days of Dominick Barlow, Jabari Walker and MarJon Beauchamp now that the roster is full at fifteen—not including their two-way deals.

For a time, it seemed that the Sixers would pivot away from 10-day candidates, instead converting one of Barlow or Walker. Philadelphia had spent time evaluating candidates across the G League, focusing on bigs with rim-protecting ability, and eventually found a match in Bassey.

After this addition, the Sixers will wait until closer to, if not until after, the NBA trade deadline to convert the deals of Barlow and potentially Walker as well, depending on what the team looks like after any potential moves.

Bassey was drafted by the Sixers with the 53rd overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. After a season in Philadelphia in which Bassey played 23 games, he was waived by the team on Oct. 13, 2022.

The former Western Kentucky big man was re-acquired by the Sixers organization when the team re-acquired his rights in a trade with the G League's Texas Legends in exchange for Emoni Bates. The Blue Coats then moved Bassey, along with a second-round pick in the 2026 NBA G League Draft, to the Santa Cruz Warriors in exchange for Jackson Rowe, first-round picks in the 2026 and 2027 NBA G League Drafts.

This season, Bassey has averaged 18.7 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 2.4 blocked shots while shooting 58.4 percent from the floor and 40 percent from long-range attempts per game.
