Report: Sixers sign Charles Bassey to second 10-day contract

Posted

Shortly after the Philadelphia 76ers traded away guard Eric Gordon to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Sixers made another roster-related move. Sixers center Charles Bassey was signed to a second 10-day contract by the squad.

Bassey, who has yet to appear in a game for the Sixers this season, signed his first 10-day contract in late January but was delayed by the winter snowstorm. Bassey has technically only played for the Memphis Grizzlies this season, appearing in two games, but many fans will remember when he made a positive impression in 23 games for the Sixers as a rookie.

After being selected by the Sixers at pick 53 in the 2021 NBA Draft, he averaged 3.0 points and 2.7 rebounds a night in those games. He was eventually cut before the 2022-2023 NBA season and the San Antonio Spurs quickly scooped him up. Across three seasons, Bassey appeared in 90 games for the Spurs, averaging 4.7 points and 4.7 rebounds a night while shooting 63.0% from the field.

While Bassey has not been a world beater by any means, his sure-handed rebounding and efficient scoring are qualities the Sixers will surely appreciate should they need them. With the Sixers losing two players so far in the NBA Trade Deadline, having more bodies to play is certainly not a bad thing.
