Joel Embiid (illness) has been ruled out ahead of the Sixers' matchup against the Wizards in Washington Wednesday night, first reported by Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire. The team's 11:15 a.m. injury report was updated to reflect the change.
After the Sixers’ Monday night loss to the Miami Heat, Embiid told reporters that he had played through an illness. He had been absent from each report dating back to the Sixers initial injury report ahead of their matchup in Miami and was absent on Philadelphia’s initial injury report for their game in Washington.
Embiid had previously missed 13 consecutive games before returning on March 25 and had played three straight for Philadelphia, averaging 30.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists, before this latest absence. After the Sixers' morning shootaround in Washington, he was ruled out due to his illness.
The Sixers will have to carry on without Embiid, as every game in these final eight matchups carries significant weight as Philadelphia attempts one last push to climb the Eastern Conference standings ahead of the playoffs.
