The Philadelphia 76ers made a roster move Tuesday afternoon, signing wing Dalen Terry to a two-way contract. Terry has appeared in 204 career games across his four-year NBA career since being selected in the first round at pick 18 in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. This two-way slot was opened up by the Sixers’ conversion of Dominick Barlow to a standard deal for the remainder of the season.
Terry came to the NBA after spending two seasons with the Arizona Wildcats. In those two years, he carried career averages of 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game on 47.7% shooting from the field and 35.0% from three. He was drafted as a developmental 3&D player.
On the Bulls, Terry struggled to earn minutes early in his career. As a rookie, Terry only averaged 5.6 minutes a game. That being said, by his third year, Terry had firmly earned a spot in the rotation. Appearing in 73 games, Terry averaged 4.5 points on 35.6% shooting from deep.
This season, Terry took a step back in his playing time but took a step forward in his efficiency, connecting on a career high 41.3% from beyond the arc. Unfortunately for Terry, the Bulls decided to add approximately 76 guards at the deadline and, as a result, dealt Terry to the New York Knicks for former Sixers forward Guerschon Yabusele. Terry was then sent to the New Orleans Pelicans in a trade for Jose Alvarado. The Pelicans then waived the 23-year-old wing.
While Terry has not had the most eye-popping NBA career thus far, the Sixers' proven track record with developing players with their two-way slots likely made the team an attractive landing spot for Terry. At only 23 years old, and in possession of all the physical attributes you could want in a 3&D wing, the upside in signing Dalen Terry is evident.
