Eagles sign former Jets TE to one-year deal

Posted

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles are signing former Jets TE Stone Smartt to a one-year deal.

Smartt will join the Philadelphia TE room that currently consists of Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, Johnny Mundt, and Cameron Latu.

An undrafted free agent back in 2022, Smartt spent the first three years of his career with the Chargers before joining the Jets in 2025. So far, he's recorded 432 receiving yards and a touchdown at the NFL level having caught 38 of 54 targets.

Smartt will likely be competing for a rotational role in the City of Brotherly Love, but has carved a reputation as a reliable special teamer who can contribute offensively. This is a skillset that has long been coveted in Philadelphia and gives the ODU product a shot at making the Eagles' roster when Training Camp arrives.

The Eagles continue to bolster the TE position through cheap and low-risk acquisitions, a trend that has been building for a number of years now. The question now is whether Smartt can not only crack the roster, but maybe pack a larger punch than many of the veterans, like Richard Rodgers, who have signed similar deals before him.
