A car came loose from a tow truck and fatally struck a motorcyclist Saturday afternoon in Frankford, police said.

Investigators have not yet identified the driver, who fled the scene, though they did find the truck after the crash.

Authorities said the collision occurred at around 4:15 p.m. on the 4000 block of Frankford Avenue. A 2005 silver Dodge Magnum that was being hauled by a Ford F-250 tow truck detached as the driver was headed southbound, law enforcement officials added.

The Dodge crossed over into the northbound lanes and hit 39-year-old Jason Harvey as he rode his motorcycle, according to police. Harvey, who lived in Southampton, Bucks County, was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he died before 5 p.m., the PPD said.

Officers later found the tow truck unoccupied about a mile away, in the parking lot of an apartment building on the 1000 block of E. Lycoming Street in Juniata, investigators said.

Anyone with information about the driver or the crash is asked to call or text the PPD’s tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
