Amidst yet another career-best season, one that will see his second appearance and first start in the NBA All-Star Game, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey will make his first appearance in the 3-Point Contest, the league announced on Sunday afternoon.

Maxey was one of eight players selected, including Devin Booker, Jamal Murray, Donovan Mitchell, rookie shooting sensation Kon Knueppel, Bobby Portis, Norman Powell and, in a surprise appearance, Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard, who is expected to miss the entire season as he recovers from a torn Achilles.

Shooting was not among Maxey's scouted strengths when he was selected by the Sixers with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, but through relentless hard work and a dedication to improve "one percent better every day," Maxey has grown to become one of the league's elite shooters. Maxey currently ranks fifth in the NBA in made three-pointers this season, shooting at a 38.2 percent clip from deep.

The Sixers will now see two representatives participate in three contests: Maxey in the three-point contest and the All-Star game itself, while rookie VJ Edgecombe will take part in the NBA's Rising Stars Challenge on Friday.
