Police have apprehended a driver accused of causing two collisions before slamming into a building early Monday morning in West Philadelphia.
Just after 3:30 a.m., officers noticed someone driving a Tesla Model X on the sidewalk along the 4900 block of Spruce Street, law enforcement officials said. The officers parked their cruiser in an attempt to block the car, but the driver continued, hitting the driver’s side of the patrol vehicle, according to the PPD.
He sped away from police, heading north on 50th Street before striking a Chevrolet Impala at 50th and Walnut streets, investigators said. The collision sent the Tesla through the front window of a nearby residential property, causing major damage, police added.
Officials said the Chevy driver was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries. The PPD did not report any other injuries.
The alleged driver, a 35-year-old Charles Dorsey, initially ran from the wrecked car, though authorities later found him back on the 4900 block of Spruce. He was taken to a local medical center for treatment.
Dorsey has been charged with aggravated assault, criminal mischief, fleeing police and a host of other offenses.
