Storm to drop 2 and 4 inches of snow on Philadelphia area

Before Philadelphians can start basting the turkey, they’ll have to shovel some snow.

The National Weather Service is forecasting two to four inches of snow on the metro area Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving and traditionally the busiest travel day of the year.

NWS Meteorologist Lance Franck said the storm will start as rain around midnight Tuesday and change to snow by the mid to late morning.

“And that will fall throughout the day,” Franck said. “The heaviest snow should be over by late evening and it will all be over by midnight.”

Franck said the NWS recommends not traveling between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday.

“If they can, they should travel tomorrow after 7 p.m. when the snow starts to wind down and the road crews get a chance to clear things out,” Franck said.

“It’s going to be tough for a lot of folks on the busiest travel day of the year,” he added.

Thanksgiving

“Thanksgiving is much better,” Franck said.

Once the snow stops around midnight, Philadelphians can expect a dry day.

The forecast is mostly cloudy, but dry. Temperatures will start around 30 degrees and reach 40 degrees for the high.
