A gun was discovered Tuesday morning inside the backpack of a student at First Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School, forcing the Frankford building into a two-hour lockdown, authorities said.
Officers responded at around 10 a.m. to the K-12 school, on the 4300 block of Tacony Street, after a parent received a call from her daughter indicating that a student had a firearm, according to police. Authorities quickly recovered the gun.
No one was injured, school leaders said, and the lockdown was lifted just before 12:15 p.m. First Philadelphia, operated by American Paradigm Schools, did not dismiss students early.
“The safety of our students and everyone within our school is paramount and will always remain our number one focus,” the school said in a statement. “We thank our faculty and staff for their diligence here.”
