Last night, hundreds (including myself) gathered at Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon in Glen Mills, Pa. for the 3rd annual style wars competition. This event is far more than your typical fashion show. Teams of stylists work together to create high-energy looks that strut the runway and are then judged on hair, makeup and wardrobe.
This year’s style wars competition was hosted by Tabatha Coffey, celebrity stylist and host of Bravo’s Tabatha’s Salon Takeover. A panel of local celebrities serve as judges and choose the best overall look of the evening. This year’s judges included Jimmy Contreras of PhillyStreetStyle.com and MVPR, special events and marketing guru Scott Barnes, styling and wardrobe consultant Jen Abrams, Joe Mastalia of DePasquale Salon Systems, S.V.A. Holdings founder Sarah Van Aken and Brian Lipstein, president and CEO of Henry A. Davidson Master Tailors & Image Consultants. Clothing was provided by Anthropologie, J Crew and Marc Anthony for Kohl’s. Guests enjoyed the vocal styling of Jessy Kyle along with food and cocktails supplied by Harvest. Themes for the teams looks ranged from 80s nostalgia, 60s era and international design, but the winner was the tribal themed collection. You can see from this picture why they stole the show!
All proceeds from Style Wars go to benefit Adopt A Pig, a 100% volunteer organization helping children and their families cope with the diagnosis of cancer. Pediatric cancer patients and survivors paint and decorate piggy banks, which are purchased by sponsors for a $25 fee. Sponsors then use the banks to collect donations. When the banks are full, they count the change and send a check to Adopt A Pig, keeping the bank as a personal reminder of a child’s fight against cancer. The organization also provides coping kits to cancer patients, designed to help them and their loved ones deal with the physical, emotional and financial challenges of fighting the disease. This year’s show raised a total of $25,000 for the charity.
