Survey: 75 percent of pet owners provide for ‘furry family members’ in last will and testament

A recent survey conducted by the Plymouth Meeting-based “pet parenting” website Pet360 found that more than 70 percent of pet owners provide for their “furry family members” in their last will and testament.

The study looked at just how far pet owners are willing to go to spoil their four-legged pals.

Unsurprisingly, 99.4 percent of respondents said they consider their pets to be part of their family. More than 99 percent of the survey-takers’ pets share a bed with a human family member. And 99.4 percent sing or talk to their pets.

Three in four people said they would rather be stranded on a desert island with their pets than with a human companion, and 42.5 percent said they wouldn’t go on vacation if they couldn’t bring their pet along.

Seventy-five percent of those who took the survey said they celebrate their pet’s birthday or adoption day, while 40.3 percent admitted to sneaking their pets into a store or public area. Three in four respondents have shared an ice cream cone or popsicle with their pet.

Nine in ten of survey respondents “wouldn’t bat an eye” at spending $100 on a cat or dog bed, while a handful of “pet parents” said they’d spend $1,000 on a diamond-studded collar for their feline or canine companion.
