Suspect arrested after 69th Street Transportation Center stabbing

Authorities apprehended a man in West Philadelphia following a stabbing Tuesday morning inside SEPTA’s 69th Street Transportation Center.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, allegedly stabbed another man near the Market-Frankford Line cashier’s booth at around 9:15 a.m. The victim was hospitalized in critical condition, according to SEPTA.

While the authority is unclear about what, if anything, led to the stabbing, it was “a very serious attack in a very short period of time,” spokesperson Andrew Busch told Metro.

SEPTA transit, Upper Darby and Philadelphia police collaborated on the investigation, using surveillance cameras to track the suspect as he boarded an eastbound MFL train and got off at the 52nd Street stop, Busch said.

Then, using city security cameras, they saw him go to a residence near 51st and Arch streets, where he was arrested just after 11:30 a.m., according to Busch.

Transit police deployed similar methods last week to apprehend the suspect in the fatal stabbing at the Macy’s store in Center City.
