Suspect held in Mace attack on SEPTA driver

Philadelphia police have arrested a woman who allegedly sprayed Mace at a SEPTA bus driver and a passenger in a wheelchair Tuesday.

Around 7:45 p.m., a woman attempted to hail the Route 47 bus midblock nearFifth Street and Olney Avenue. According to 6ABC, the driver proceeded to the next stop, about half a block away, operating on SEPTA protocol.

The disgruntled passenger got to the stop at the 5600 block of North Fifth Street and boarded as the bus driver was helping a passenger in a wheelchair. Authorities said the woman pushed the driver and sprayed Mace in her face.

“An argument occurs during which the angry rider whips out Mace and sprays the operator and accidentally sprayed the wheelchair passenger,” Transit Police Chief Thomas J. Nestel told the Inquirer.

The woman, who’s name has not been released, was arrested. The driver and wheelchair passenger were taken toEinstein Medical Center.
