Police said they received a call about an assault in the girls’ bathroom involving three students, including the deceased victim, CBS3 stated.
A spokeswoman from the mayor’s office could not state what had caused the conflict, but she said it was not gang related, according to 6ABC.
Police said two people were being questioned in connection to the incident, but no one has been arrested, CBS3 reported, adding that no weapons have been recovered.
“I’m so upset that the young lady lost her life today,” Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams was quoted by 6 ABC. “Things like this shouldn’t happen. My heart bleeds for the family, the kids that go to this school, administrators and our city.”
