Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a young man who wounded a teenage girl in a shooting Tuesday afternoon inside a Broad Street Line station in North Philadelphia.

The incident happened at around 1 p.m. on the SEPTA subway platform at Cecil B. Moore, which serves as the main stop for Temple University, according to authorities.

Campus police officers took a 17-year-old girl to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her right leg, officials said. There was no word on her condition.

The PPD believes the gunfire stemmed from an argument, and it was not clear whether the teen was the intended target. Investigators recovered three spent 9mm shell casings at the scene.

Authorities released a surveillance image of the suspect later Tuesday that appears to show him at SEPTA’s City Hall station.

Police described him as Black male in his late teens who is between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build and short dreadlocks. He was wearing black shorts, a white tank top and a black Under Armour backpack at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the PPD’s Shooting Investigation Group at 215-686-8270 or call or text the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Total crime on the SEPTA system was down 28% to begin 2025 compared to the three-year average prior to last year, representatives from the authority said in April. Citywide, the number of shooting victims has dropped 9% compared to the same date in 2024, police data shows.
